London 2012: The Official Video Game from publisher SEGA has managed to keep its number one position in the United Kingdom software chart for the third week in a row, showing how a medium profile video game can be propelled to greatness by a real-world event like the Olympics.

London 2012: The Official Video Game allows players to take place in a variety of events that are also part of the real world competition, using venues that are part of London.

Second place in the United Kingdom video game chart was again occupied by LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, the brick-powered video game from TT Games and Warner Bros. Interactive which allows gamers to destroy and rebuild the world of the superhero which is also dominating movie screens at the moment.

The last place on the podium is also unchanged since last week, as the Olympic spirit and license have also done wonders for the market place, fortunes of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, another title from SEGA.

Batman: Arkham City, the 2011 title that allows players to play as the Batman but also as Robin and Catwoman, has managed to gain one place over the previous seven-day period and reach fourth, while The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has seen the biggest jump of the week and has landed in fifth after the launch of the Dawnguard DLC.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is in sixth place, coming from outside the top ten, and The Amazing Spider-Man, a Beenox and Activision title, stays web glued to seventh.

Another top ten re-entry is Battlefield 3, the first-person shooter from DICE and Electronic Arts, sitting in eight and another shooter, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, is in ninth.

The United Kingdom top ten is closed down by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
