Says developer

LittleBigPlanet is certainly one of those videogames that can be very successful in the long term if the publisher and the developer take the time to invest the resources needed to create a true gaming community around it. And Sony and Media Molecule are apparently ready to give the title a chance with the level of support they are announcing.

In a new PlayStation Blog entry, the developers have talked about their plans to implement fresh moderation techniques and about the merchandise based on the SackBoy that would be launched in early 2009.

But the real interesting news came up in the comment thread where a game developer talked about a pretty big patch that is being created for LittleBigPlanet. The developer, called efong, wrote that “Yup, new levels have been in the works for a while (but require a lot of testing/fixing/balancing),” and then added that “Yup, we're working on a fairly significant patch. Hope to have an update for everyone soon. Keep checking back”.

No dates have been mentioned and there are no details on how much content could be added to the game, but both the developer and the publisher have such big hopes for the title that something pretty big must be in development. Expect more announcements in early 2009. Probably, it would pay more dividends to enhance the level editor side of the title rather than add more levels.

After all, the big draw is sorting through user created content in search for the gem that has both innovation and familiarity. Sony and Media Molecule could also try to tone down the level of moderation applied to the user created content. Until now, most of the levels based on heroes like Super Mario or Space Invaders have been taken down by moderators because they infringed on copyright.
