The other day, a full minute and a half of a never before heard Michael Jackson track, a duet with Lenny Kravitz, made its way on the Internet. Fans were understandably thrilled about the leak because it came to confirm earlier reports that the singer kept active and wrote and recorded music even when he was believed to be taking a “break.” His estate and Sony were not, as neither was Lenny Kravitz, who confirmed the authenticity of the track in a video on his Twitter page.

The track is authentic, the singer says in the clip meant to set the record straight with his fans, but it was not supposed to come out just now. In fact, Kravitz goes on to say, he doesn’t even know whether “Another Day” was ever meant for release, but what he does know is that he is not the one responsible for the leak, as his own copy is secure in a vault.

“I just want to reach out to you so I can set the record straight regarding the Michael Jackson track ‘Another Day.’ As you know and have heard, part of the song leaked – not by me, because mine has been locked up in a vault since we recorded it. The version that’s out is a minute and 30 seconds, roughly, of the track – not mixed, but it is the track,” Kravitz says. He wrote, produced and played all the instruments of the track, but he does not know who the two DJs are, who could be heard over the track in the leaked version, the singer also explains.

“I don’t know what their purpose is, but that person has nothing to do with the track. It was one of the most amazing musical experiences that I’ve ever had. It was done by two people who had respect for each other and who love music – that was it,” Lenny further adds. He also mentions that, while he’s saddened by the leak, he’d love it if he could have Michael’s fans hear the final, complete version of “Another Day,” by having it released officially as a single.

As this was going on, the Michael Jackson Estate and Sony were busy pulling all versions of the leaked snipped off the Internet. In the same video mentioned above, Lenny also promises to keep Michael’s fans up to date with all the developments in the matter, including a release date, whenever one is made public.
