Rumors that Leica is preparing to announce its first interchangeable-lens camera go as far back as October 2013, when the Taiwanese NCC government agency published a filing for a new Leica T type 701 model.

For the moment, little is known about this mysterious model, but all rumors indicate that this will be Leica's first mirrorless camera. New information has recently emerged about the new Leica T type 701 and, according to LeicaRumors, the camera will be announced in April this year.

Moreover, it seems that the upcoming Leica T series camera will have an APS-C sensor and it will most probably be made in Germany. A few rumors back in December 2013 also state that, despite the collaboration with Nippon electronics manufacturer Panasonic, Leica's new camera will not use the MFT (Micro Four Thirds) model.

Furthermore, the new model will sport Leica's own mount, which places it in the high-end mirrorless segment. Stay tuned as we try to find out more on this matter.
