The handset is codenamed Sofia

Sony Ericsson hasn't been all that impressive lately and it seems to be focusing on low-end handsets more than on anything else.

The K800 has already been on the market for some time now, and since Nokia now boasts the N95, Sony Ericsson has to come up with something for their Cybershot-loving customers.

Among the bunch of rumors there was one claiming that Sony Ericsson were to release a mobile phone, codenamed Sofia, which was to be a sort of rival for Nokia's N95 and come with a 5 megapixel camera with xenon flash and QVGA recording.

Now some leaked photos have reached the surface and this is what Sofia could look like.

I say ?could? because this might as well be Photoshoped, but truth be told, Sony Ericsson has been using the same design over and over again on their Cybershot phones so it wouldn't be surprising if that's exactly what the phone will look like.

The official name the phone will be presented under will be K850, so basically this is a K800 with a slightly modified design and a better camera.

We've seen the keys used on this one before in the case of the Ai ? W880 and the Li ? K550i and could easily come to the conclusion that Sony Ericsson has no intention of dropping the joystick but has started to like the P990-like keys and will use them on most of their new handsets.

The first photo appeared on a Chinese website and it looks like the mobile phone should be officially announced very soon which will probably happen at the 3GSM next week where hopefully the W880i and the K550i, among others, will also be unveiled.
