Gossip lovers might have seen this coming as early as about a month ago, when word first got out that Larry King and wife Shawn Southwick were seeing a counselor to help them with their marital problems, days after filing for divorce. The two have issued a joint statement to announce they’re calling off the legal hounds and, at the same time, the divorce, People magazine confirms.

Larry King was the first to file for divorce, followed within hours by Shawn. Both filed the papers citing irreconcilable differences as the cause – but, as it turns out, their differences could actually be solved in the end. Talk of extramarital affairs on both sides began shortly after confirmation went to press that they were pulling the plug on the marriage, with a few mean-spirited reports even saying the marriage had been one of convenience.

“We love our children, we love each other, we love being a family. That is all that matters to us. We owe it to ourselves and our children to continue being dedicated to each other. We want to thank our friends for their loyal love and support – for being there for us,” the two say in the statement. “They have stopped the divorce proceedings. He has moved back home,” their spokesperson, Howard Rubenstein, also confirms.

At the beginning of this month, the two were supposed to decide whether they really wanted a divorce or not, but they asked for another week to settle everything in between them and see if ending the marriage was the best way to go. As we also reported back then, all signs pointed to their reconciliation, especially since the decision to file the papers for divorce struck many as a very rash one, to say the least.

“TMZ has learned Larry King and his wife, Shawn Southwick, are unsure if they should stay married and need more time to decide if they’ll go forward with the divorce. TMZ broke the story that Larry and Shawn each filed divorce papers – within minutes of each other – back on April 14. On April 19 reps for both sides told TMZ the divorce was on hold for 2 weeks while the couple tried working their problems out – among other things, they wanted to hash their conflicts out with a marriage counselor,” TMZ wrote at the time.
