14 DAY TRIAL // A short while ago, Larry King decided to divorce his seventh wife, to whom he’d been married for 13 years. Shortly after, Shawn Southwick too filed the papers asking for the dissolution of marriage on the grounds of “irreconcilable differences.” People magazine has now confirmation that the two are indeed trying to work things out, just as speculation had it this weekend.
The magazine spoke with King’s attorney and learned that both the CNN talk show host and his wife are trying hard to solve some pending issues – issues that might actually prevent them from getting a divorce. Though the legal representative doesn’t say what these might be, speculation online has it that it might have something to do with the fact that Larry King and Shawn don’t have a prenup signed, which would entitle her to half of his $140+ million fortune.
“Larry King’s seventh marriage may not be over after all. ‘There’s a 50-50 chance this divorce is not happening,’ King’s lawyer Dennis Wasser tells People. ‘His focus is on the best interest of his children. It’s not clear to me which way he’s going to turn on this issue.’ The revelation comes as King and his wife Shawn attended counseling Monday. In a separate statement, Wasser says, ‘It was decided that there will be no divorce proceedings for two weeks as several issues need to be discussed and resolved’,” People writes citing King’s attorney.
“King and his wife were seen walking arm-in-arm Sunday at their son’s baseball game in Los Angeles. The couple, who have been married for 12½ years, have two boys. The pair also embraced at a previous game one day after both filed for divorce amid rumors of infidelity,” the same publication reports as to the events leading up to their seeking counseling for whatever problems they’re facing in their marriage right now.
As we also reported, it is believed the divorce petition came on the heels of a very violent fight the two had, in which Shawn accused King of having an affair with her own sister, a relationship that reportedly lasted for five years or so.
