Leading electronics giant LG Electronics has announced the launch of a new technology, called LG THINQ, and aimed at offering customers the possibility to control their home appliances straight from the mobile phone in their hands.

The company plans on bringing the technology at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show, which is set to kick off in Las Vegas later this week (on January 6th).

According to the company, THINQ is a system through which smartphone and PC users would have the possibility to manage their LG appliances (washers and dryers, refrigerators) remotely.

A recent article on MobileBurn notes that there are five main parts of the new system that LG plans on showing to the world at the upcoming CES 2011.

There is a Smart Grid feature that would enable users to set their appliances to run at recommended times, so as “to gain benefits of any available off-peak energy rates.”

Moreover, the system is set to offer a series of various details to customers, including, for example, info on the number of times an LG refrigerator's door has been opened during a day.

Another component of the system, the news site reports, is the Smart Diagnosis, through which one can easily order service, and which is also meant to help technicians troubleshoot the appliance.

The Smart Diagnosis system is also meant to alert users at times when there is something wrong with an appliance, including a door that has been left open.

Smartphone owners would be able to remotely control and monitor their appliances through THINQ Smart Access. The system would even enable setting the temperature of the refrigerator from the handset, and do more.

And there is also THINQ Smart Adapt, which would enable appliances to take advantage of a Wi-Fi connection to download software updates when they are available.

According to the said article on MobileBurn, “the Food Management Solution will allow users to better manage the contents of their refrigerator unit.”
