South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has already confirmed plans to bring to the market handsets running under the Windows Phone operating system, but no specific info on when they could arrive has been provided as of now.

According to a recent article on DigiTimes, however, the company is moving closer to the release of such smartphones and might outsource its manufacturing to ODMs in Taiwan.

Apparently, the mobile phone maker has actually resumed its cooperation with the Taiwan-based handset ODM Arima Communications and has already placed orders for entry-level Android 3G smartphones with the company.

The news site claims that LG has ordered two million devices initially and should receive them in the third quarter of the year.

These 3G-enabled handsets are expected to arrive on shelves in Southeast Asia, Latin America and other emerging markets, and they will be entry-level smartphones, it seems.

Apparently, LG is planning on increasing shipments of its mobile phones fast, and the release of new Windows Phone-powered devices might help it achieve this goal.

In order to ensure that it will manage to sustain shipment growth, LG is expected to outsource the manufacturing of these Windows Phone handsets to ODMs, DigiTimes suggests.

During the first quarter of this year, the company managed to ship no less than 12.3 million handsets, mainly courtesy of strong sales of Nexus 5 and LG G2, as well as of other 4G LTE models in the company’s lineup.

For the second quarter of the year, however, LG is aiming at shipping 15 million mobile phones, which would set a new record for the company.

Before the end of this month, the handset vendor will make its LG G3 flagship official, with a Quad HD screen, quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, and 13MP camera on the back, and might indeed be able to increase sales significantly.

Last year, LG managed to ship a total of 47.7 million smartphones but should top 60 million in shipments before the end of this year, DigiTimes suggests.

As mentioned above, LG has already confirmed Windows Phone handsets in its lineup, although no further details on the matter have been provided as of now.

However, with more makers already unveiling plans for the launch of smartphones running under Microsoft’s OS, the South Korean vendor might consider speeding up the release process, so as to ensure that it does not fall behind.

Unfortunately, given that Android is the main OS of choice for LG, it remains to be seen how much the company will focus on the building of Windows Phone devices moving forth.
