Last year, South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics unveiled to the world its first handset that featured 3D capabilities, the LG Optimus 3D.

This year, the company is expected to launch the successor of this device, which has been spotted on the web before as the LG CX2.

However, rumor has it that it would actually be released under the name of LG Optimus 3D Max, and that it might make an official appearance at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.

Nothing has been officially announced on this device, but some rumors on its possible specs did emerge.

Thus, we can expect it to land on the market with a 1.2GHz dual-core Texas Instruments application processor inside, complemented by 8GB of internal memory.

The upcoming Optimus 3D Max should arrive on shelves with an auto-stereoscopic 4.3-inch glasses-free WVGA NOVA display.

On the back, it is said to pack dual-five-megapixel rear cameras with LED flash, most probably capable of shooting 3D videos in HD resolution, the same as the predecessor.

The specification list of the new mobile phone would also include WiFi b/g/n connectivity, along with Bluetooth 3.0, HSPA 21Mbps, and NFC (Near Field Communication) capabilities. The handset should also come with WiFi Hotspot capabilities.

The same as the original, the new device runs under Google’s Android operating system. Apparently, it will sport Gingerbread when unveiled next month, but Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade arrives on it either before or immediately after the actual market release.

When made official next month at the Mobile World Congress, the smartphone will be accompanied by another Android handset from the mobile phone maker, namely the LG X3. Rumor has it that this would be the very first quad-core device from the company.

Unfortunately, nothing has been officially confirmed on either of the two for the time being. Hopefully, more will emerge before their official launch, so keep an eye on this space.
