The Indian market is about to become a fierce war zone for major handset manufacturers who are testing their prowess in building top notch devices.

After officially introducing two of its high-end handsets last week, the Optimus 2X and the Optimus Black, Korean manufacturer LG is preparing to launch the Optimus 3D.

According to LG officials, the Optimus 3D is scheduled for a May release, but a precise date hasn't been revealed yet.

Equipped with a high-speed dual-core and dual channel 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, complemented by a PowerVR SGX540 GPU, the phone packs 512 MB RAM and 8 GB of internal memory.

The phone's main attraction is the 4.3-inch 3D LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

If nothing goes wrong and the release date is not pushed back, the Optimus 3D will be the first smartphone in the India to feature glasses-free 3D view, shoot and share technology.

The phone will be delivered with dual 5-megapixel stereoscopic 3D cameras, so users will be able to capture crystal-clear 3D images and record 720p HD 3D videos.

The Optimus 3D phone will have two cameras that will allow users to create their own 3D content. The phone also does not require any special glasses to view the content,” said Vishal Chopra, business head, Mobile Communication, LG.

The smartphone is shipped with Android 2.2 on board, which will be upgradable to 2.3 Gingerbread at a later date.

LG India also made a surprising announcement and stated that the company plans to manufacture the smartphone at its Pune unit.

In this regard, official reports show that the Pune unit is currently manufacturing around eight million handsets including features phones, but LG wants to ramp up production to 10 million units by the end of 2011.
