Mobile phone carrier AT&T has just announced the upcoming availability of a new handset running under Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, namely the LG Nitro HD.

The new handset is said to arrive on shelves with support for true multimedia capabilities, courtesy of a high-definition touchscreen display, complemented by a dual-core application processor with each core clocked in at 1.5GHz.

Moreover, the new device is capable of providing users with fast download speeds on AT&T’s LTE network, which should further leverage the experience users receive from it.

“With the LG Nitro HD as one of our last smartphones to arrive in 2011, we’re closing out the year with a bang,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Devices, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets.

“We’ve seen others get close to a true HD experience on Android superphones this year, but Nitro HD is the one that does it right.”

The specification list of the new mobile phone includes a 4.5-inch True HD AH-IPS display that can deliver a 1280 X 720 pixels resolution and 500 nit display luminance.

The new smartphone features a slim design (5.27” X 2.67” X 0.41”), complemented by support for AT&T’s HSPA+ and LTE networks, and WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities.

Moreover, the LG Nitro HD comes with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for recording videos in full HD resolution, as well as with wireless HD content streaming options, courtesy of Wi-Fi Direct technology and DLNA features.

The new device arrives on shelves with 4GB of internal memory, which is complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space (a 16GB card is included in the mix right from the start).

LG Nitro HD is set to become available for purchase on AT&T’s network starting with December 4th, and will feature a price tag of $249.99 after the signing of a two-year contract agreement.
