LG Electronics has decided to become part of the LTE/SAE Trial Initiative (LSTI) in order to help 3G technology be used at a large scale. The company is confident that if this happens sooner, mobile phones will be able to switch to 4G technology.

LG currently supports the development of mobile solutions along with a large number of other important global mobile phone service providers. Most of them already are part of LSTI and have joined forces in order to develop solutions for the future evolution of telecommunication solutions.

Among the current members of LSTI there are important companies, such as Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, Ericsson, Nortel, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia, Siemens and NTT DoCoMo. NTT DoCoMo has recently made experiments for hurrying the passage to 4G technology of mobile phones.

?The LSTI member quality will allow LG to reaffirm its position as a leader in 3G technology and, moreover, to reassure its pertnership with leaidng operators and telecommunication companies.?, declared Jin Sung Choi, Vicepresident of LG Electronics Mobile Communication Technology Research Lab. Jin Sung Choi further added that ?LG will play an important towards accelerating the implementation of 3GPP LTE technology?.

Reaching such results could mean an important development for mobile phone service providers everywhere. The 3GPP LTE technology makes it possible for handsets to download data at a speed over 100 Mbps and upload at up to 50 Mbps. All this will be possible everywhere and at any time they like, due to the mobility of their phones.

LG has worked with Nortel in order to present the 3GPP LTE technology at the World Congress in Barcelona, in February, this year. The technology is currently being perfected, while the date for its final stage is set for September, this year.
