Google's Android operating system has just started to gain a little more ground on the market, as more and more handsets that run under it have surfaced, ranging from the officially unveiled ones to those that are leaked or alleged to surface. One of the rumored Android-based devices that should land during the ongoing year is the LG GW620, which has just popped up on the Web.

Nothing much was known about LG Electronics' plans in the Android area until now. Although the company announced earlier this year that it intended to release devices that would sport the Google mobile operating system, it kept silence over any details on the mobile phones it had in store. Up until now that is, as the LG GW620, supposedly the first Android handset from the South Korean company, has just made it into the wild.

According to a post on NieuweMobiel.NL, the upcoming LG mobile phone would include a 320 x 480 pixel (half-VGA) display, which should also sport touchscreen capabilities, as well as a QWERTY keyboard and UMTS/HSDPA 3G support, though there are no details on the bands it would feature compatibility with.

According to the post, the pieces of information on the future Android-powered LG mobile phone have surfaced via an XML file that was found on the company's site. Besides the above-mentioned specs of the phone, said file also shows support for MIDI, WAV, MP3, WMA, M4A and WMV, MPEG4, H.264, ASF, 3GP file formats, as well as SyncML support.

Details are rather scarce, as one can easily notice, yet the handset might arrive in the not-too-distant future, which means that more pieces of information, hopefully some official ones too, will be unveiled soon. In case this pans out, Android fans out there will have yet another handset to enjoy, following the high-end HTC and Samsung phones that are already available.
