Konami has announced that it plans to launch SAW 2 in the autumn of 2010 for the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft. The publisher is saying that the game will take the world of Jigsaw to the next level, allowing players to explore more nightmare-like scenarios as they try to save the subjects of complex and bloody experiments.

The main character in SAW 2 will be Michael, the son of Detective Tapp. The two have not been talking for some time but the son is very interested in finding out why his father is dead. Puzzle by puzzle and twist by twist, he will begin to see how Jigsaw is involved and will confront him directly, fending off his minions and solving his elaborate traps. Konami says players will need to pay close attention to the puzzles that are thrown at them and to the clues left around in order to progress.

The story of SAW 2 is placed somewhere between the second and the third movie in the long running series and will offer fans more information linked to the universe. They promise better storytelling, more traps and tougher combat.

Martin Schneider, who is the director of marketing and public relations for Konami in Europe, stated, “The original SAW video game gave horror fans and gamers a new outlet to advance their favorite genre, but left them wanting more. SAW 2 will give it to them, but be careful for what you wish for! Our successful partnership with Lionsgate allows us to advance the survival horror genre, giving players the most intense look into the SAW universe ever.”

The newest SAW movie, VII, directed by Kevin Greutert, will be launched in October 2010 and will, for the first time, be presented in full 3D. The game might arrive very near this date in order to capitalize on its popularity.
