In today's world USB flash drives have become such commonplace items that is hard for anyone out there to leave home without one, Kingston's recently released DataTraveler R500 coming as an interesting option if you are searching for a larger capacity drive.

Available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models, this new USB flash drive comes covered in a rubberized casing that should add to the overall ruggedness of Kingston's offering, these units supporting read and write speeds of up to 30 MB/s and 20 MB/s, respectively.

As you may have guessed by looking at those specifications, the DataTraveler R500 is a regular USB 2.0 offering, Kingston not going for the speedier USB 3.0 standard when designing these units.

At those write speeds I don't want to imagine how long it will take someone to transfer a Full HD video to the drive, so users that deal with such large files should turn their eyes towards a USB 3.0 solution.

“This is the ideal solution for users such as photographers or graphic designers who want to store and share high-definition photos or videos, large documents, presentations or music”, said Steve Hall, European Product Development of Flash.

“This is the ultimate USB Flash drive for those who desire fast transfer rates and a sturdy design.”

As far as its dimensions go, the DataTraveler R500 can't be called small by any means, although it's still pretty portable for a storage solution that goes up to 64GB in size.

Price wise, Kingston will retail these in Europe starting at €36.40 (16GB), the 32GB version being available for €70.50, while the 64GB version will set you back an impressive €162.38, however, to make the deal a little bit sweeter, Kingston is prepared to throw a five-year warranty together with 24/7 tech support in there, not a bad deal if you ask me.
