There was a time, when he was still married to Britney Spears, when dancer and aspiring rapper Kevin Federline could wear wifebeaters that showed off his toned arms and equally toned abdomen. After the divorce from the pop star, though, K-Fed let himself go, which, in time, earned him the nickname of K-Fat – and it was all because of depression, he says in a recent interview cited by People magazine.

According to Federline, though that can’t be the main cause for him letting himself go like that, depression played a very important part in his overeating. At one point, shortly after Spears filed for divorce, he just stopped caring about anything else, which meant he started packing on the pounds, which, in turn, led to even lower self-esteem and more issues to deal with. Luckily, he snapped out of this and can now look in the mirror with pride, having lost all the extra weight on the recent season of VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club: Boot Camp.”

“Once you get depressed, you don’t really feel like doing anything. You’re kind of discouraged about yourself and then the weight gain too, or that makes me more depressed… I mean, it’s a combination of all of those things. Everybody knows what happened with me and Brit. I’m not going to say that’s the total cause of it but, I mean, just not being happy with myself was probably the main part of my depression,” Kevin explains in the aforementioned interview.

Being in the public eye also contributed to making the issues he’d been having that much worse. Luckily, all that is water under the bridge now: Kevin Federline is back in shape, has a new girlfriend and has moved past all animosity with his ex, of whom he has nothing but love, especially since they have something so beautiful together like their two boys. Moreover, now that Britney too has managed to work out the problems that got her so much negative media in the past, K-Fed is truly happy: happy for himself and the way things are in his life right now, happy for his ex and happy for his children.

Speaking of children, in another recent interview, Federline was saying they were his biggest accomplishment to date, including being a dancer in Michael Jackson’s troupe once. “For me my children are the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Unless you have children you don’t really know. When my daughter was born that was it, I knew that I was gonna have more children. I just knew it. My parents had raised me so well and my whole life completely changed whenever I had children,” he said in early December last year, as we also reported at the time.
