The marriage between singer Katy Perry and comedian / actor Russell Brand was well documented and that's why, when the pair decided to go on their separate ways, it came as a bombshell to many.

In a recent interview with Marie Claire Magazine, Katy Perry reveals that the ultimate reason the couple didn't see eye to eye was because she wasn't ready to start a family.

"I'm definitely not there yet, and I can't plan that far in advance,” the “Roar” singer says in the interview, revealing that there are currently other things she's keeping her mind on at the moment.

On of the reasons she gives for not being ready to start a family is that she thinks being a mom requires time, something she doesn't have at the moment.

Ultimately, this difference in timing between Russell and Katy led to their divorce, which Russell informed her of via text. You don't need to be a brain surgeon to realize the state Katy was in when she received the news. She admits that it was a rough couple of weeks where she was only “eating Flamin' Hot Cheetos and drinking.”

"[Brand] really wanted me to have children, and I knew I wasn't ready - I think it was a way of control. I think it was part of, If I have a kid, then I would have to sacrifice - I'd have to be home more. I really wanted to, but I knew I wasn't ready for it," Katy continues, revealing the way a child would affect her life.

Meanwhile, since the split, Katy has moved on, found a boyfriend in fellow singer John Mayer and continued to work on her career, releasing a new album “Prism,” touring and even becoming a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador to support underprivileged children from across the Globe.

Although she admits it took her a while, Perry claims that she's over her demons now and the failed relation with Russell Brand no longer haunts her, which is why she's able to talk about it.
