14 DAY TRIAL // After feuding on issues ranging from family money to the kids’ birthday parties, and who was right and who was wrong in handling family issues in the media, Jon and Kate Gosselin have finally reached an understanding as regards the joint bank account that Jon secretly raided a while back. Following the arbitrator’s decision, Jon returned the $180,000 he took and Kate is “pleased” that he’s seen some sense at last, as her rep puts it in a statement to TMZ.
According to the statement, Jon’s final action stands as proof of the fact that he’s been lying all along, claiming that he didn’t touch the money but only withdrew what he considered to be his “paycheck.” Returning the money to the bank account – which, as a side note, was set up to provide for the eight children Kate and Jon have together – also means he acknowledges that he’s been lying about Kate’s finances as well, by saying she had more bank accounts set up and millions hidden away – in more or less words.
“We are clearly pleased that the monies taken by Mr. Gosselin have been returned to the marital account, and we look forward to recouping additional monies taken by Mr. Gosselin at the time of the parties’ private arbitration hearings. A total of at least $235,000 was taken by Mr. Gosselin, and despite his initial comments denying responsibility, we have established that Ms. Gosselin needed emergency relief to prevent her economic claims from being compromised.” the statement to TMZ says.
As we also reported these past months, the Gosselins have been waging a very bitter war of words in the media, with each spouse accusing the other of lying, manipulating and basically being the worst example of a parent in the history of humankind. Jon, as far as he’s concerned, has drawn some serious negative media with his more recent appearance, especially since he made it a point of defending his action of blocking the TLC network from shooting his children on the grounds the reality show was exploiting them.
This came on the heels of one statement from Mr. Gosselin that said just the contrary, as he insisted it was not TLC that was exploiting the kids, but rather the tabloid media and the paparazzi.
