Kanye West gets into Twitter “feud” with Britney Spears over new songs and chart positions

In what is being described as a mini-Taylor Swift situation, rapper Kanye West named-dropped Britney Spears the other day, bringing back his (in)famous “Imma let you finish” line that he first used on the country singer.

As we also noted this week, both Kanye and Britney have new songs out: his is a collaboration with Jay Z called “HAM,” hers is a club track named “Hold It Against Me.”

While Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” is currently number 1 on iTunes, Kanye’s “HAM” is second – and it would seem that he’s not taking it lightly because he believes he and Jay Z have the best song ever.

“H*A*M #2 on ITunes… THANK YOU!!!” Kanye tweeted the other day, before apparently going after Britney Spears, who, it seems, will not let Kanye be great.

“@britneyspears: Yo britney, I’m really happy for you and I’mma let you be #1, but me and jay-z single is one of the best songs of all time,” Kanye added.

Later on, he amended the tweet and added a “LOL” at the end of it. While Britney said nothing of what her fans took as a direct diss, her manager, Adam Leber, immediately set out to put West back in his place.

“@kanyewest Thanks for ‘letting’ us be #1. Much appreciated…,” he wrote, mocking Kanye even more by adding “LOL” in a separate tweet.

At this, and probably seeing that fans were already riling up against him for picking a fight with the Princess of Pop, Kanye backtracked, saying he meant it as a joke, it wasn’t to be taken seriously.

“I thought LOL signified a joke… I didn’t get the 2011 LOL doesn’t signify a joke anymore memo… LOL or something else I guess,” he wrote on his page.

He even added that he’s made it a purpose to leave all hate aside in 2011. “On a serious note I’m truly happy for @AvrilLavigne and @BritneySpears… No hate in 2011!” he wrote.

As we speak, two teams are being formed online: camp HIAM and camp HAM, one rooting for Britney, the other for Kanye.
