14 DAY TRIAL // Even if he doesn’t really lose sleep over it, it’s by now a well-known fact that Kanye West is not popular with just everybody. For many, that particular way he has of talking about himself as if he were the next best thing life would have in store for the world is simply too much. Readers of Parade magazine feel the same, voting West the Most Egotistical Celeb of 2009.
The Parade poll included questions like which was the most surprising celebrity split of the year, which was the favorite young sensation (Taylor Swift, of course) and, last but not least, which was the most egotistical male star of the year that is about to end. Not surprisingly, after the 2009 VMA incident, and the scandal and backlash that ensued, Kanye got 46 percent of the votes of the Parade readers.
This literally places him well ahead of his direct competitors, real estate mogul Donald Trump, with 27 percent of the votes, American Idol judge Simon Cowell, with just 13 percent, P. Diddy with 8 percent and Madonna with only 6 percent. Unfortunately, this latest poll also confirms Kanye to be the biggest “loser” of 2009, after already having been crowned the undisputed King of FAIL 2009, with honorable wins in two major categories, as we also told you a while back.
The Parade readers have also spoken on other issues pertaining to our celebrity culture, including which is the hottest athlete of the moment and the star, male or female, that should take a break from social networking. As far as the former goes, the winner is, as expected, David Beckham, with 44 percent of the votes. He is followed by Derek Jeter (28%), Alex Rodriguez (11%), Reggie Bush (7%), Tiger Woods (6%) and Kobe Bryant (3%).
As for the stars who would be better off without an Internet connection and the ability to make their ramblings known to the public, these are as follows: Lindsay Lohan (33%), Perez Hilton (29%), Ashton Kutcher (25%) and John Mayer (12%). For more on the pop culture poll by Parade, please see here.
