The year is drawing to an end and, as is customary, each December, charts of “best…” and “worst…” are being made and then released to the public. Coming to confirm that, musically, Kanye West remains one of the most prominent figures of the industry, Entertainment Weekly has named his debut, “The College Dropout,” the album of the decade, a distinction that has forced the rapper to break his silence and come out of self-imposed seclusion.

It’s a well known fact that Kanye always keeps his fans up to date with everything going on his life by means of his official blog, a habit he discontinued as the controversy around his VMA interruption of Taylor Swift reached incredible heights. West has now broken his silence to speak of the honor of having his debut album named the best of the decade, as well as to thank all those who have been involved in its making – all in caps, as Kanye is known to do.

“Wow… This is really flattering… I’ve had some ups and downs this year, well actually this decade. Just seeing this cover takes me back to that time of my life. I remember how much pain and love went into this album. No one saw it coming. This project wasn’t about me, it was about a time in peoples [sic] lives where people force opinions on you and you have to make choices for yourself. We loved 50 Cent but we wanted to be the yang. We wanted to wear pink polos and rap about being hurt instead being invincible.” Kanye says (caps removed to make this easier to read).

He then goes on to list the collaborators on the album and to say that it couldn’t have been possible without his mom. “I was most inspired by the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and I listened to that album everyday while working on my debut. Thank you for this acknowledgement and for putting ‘The Blueprint’ on the list also. I loved ‘The Love Below’ and ‘Get Rich or Die Trying’ also. They both equally deserved the number one spot in my eyes but there can only be one number one!!!” West goes on to add. That number one, of course, is Kanye himself.

While from a strictly professional point of view, there’s no denying Kanye’s impact on the music industry, as a person, he’s yet to top all favorites lists. FailBlog named Kanye West the number one most memorable FAIL people, while his interruption of Taylor Swift at the VMAs was the number one most memorable FAIL moment, as we also informed you the other day.
