Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie pulled off the unthinkable and got married in a very small and very private ceremony at their estate in France, surrounded by family members and the closest friends. One person who was not in attendance was Angelina’s estranged father, Jon Voight.

Reports online claim that only 22 people beside Angelina and Brad were there, including their 6 children together. Voight might not even have been invited, if we’re to believe buzz in the blogosphere. That he found out in the press, just like the rest of the world, seems to back this story up.

Voight was being interviewed by CBS’ Inside Edition when news broke that Brad and Angelina had gotten married and had actually been husband and wife for 4 full days before anyone knew anything, Us Weekly reports.

His reaction was to say, “That's nice.” We don’t have video yet of that moment in the interview, but assuming he found out the happy news then, we suppose that must have been a very uncomfortable moment for him.

In a statement to the celebrity publication, Voight added, “It seems like it was very nice – and with all of the kids involved, it must have been a lot of fun and very beautiful. I'm happy for them.”

This time, he makes it sound that, even if he’d been invited, he could not have attended the nuptials because he had previous arrangements made. “I haven't spoken [to them since they got married]. No, I didn’t know it was happening – it was Emmys week, so I wasn’t able to go,” he said.

Angelina and her father have had a very icy relationship throughout the years, with the occasional period of “thawing” that doesn’t seem to last for long. They reconciled in 2010 after years of estrangement, but they’re not even remotely “close.”

We do know that he’s been allowed to see and interact with his grandchildren at certain intervals, but he’s definitely not part of Angelina and Brad’s life. Based on Voight’s own words and reports in the media, this is what the reconciliation amounts to: the fact that he’s allowed to see the kids, and after all these years, he knows it would be foolish to expect more.

This isn’t the first time that Angelina keeps her father in the dark either because, when the actress announced that she’d undergone double preventive mastectomy in 2013, Voight found out about it in the press too, along with the rest of the world.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been together for 9 years and engaged for 2. They have 6 children together, 3 of whom were adopted.
