14 DAY TRIAL // Shortly after he split from Vanessa Paradis – or right before that, according to some reports –, Johnny Depp started dating his “Rum Diary” co-star Amber Heard, to whom he proposed a few weeks ago, allegedly. Below is a video of the actor confirming the happy news.
One thing that stood out from the way he conducted himself with the media during his 13-year romance with the French singer and actress was that he would rarely, if ever at all, tackle persona questions in promo interviews.
Another would be that, when he did discuss private matters, such as wedding plans, he always said he wasn’t the kind to believe that marriage changed anything about two people’s lives, so this is why he and Vanessa would not tie the knot.
Clearly, Depp has had a change of heart on both accounts. In China the other day to promote his latest film, the sci-fi star-studded production “Transcendence,” the actor confirmed he and Amber were engaged by showing off the ring on his engagement finger, which happens to be hers, Us Weekly says.
“I think that I would be better at making women's shoes than I would be at wedding planning, I can't plan anything. I'm really bad at that stuff,” Depp said, answering a hypothetical question.
Asked directly by a reporter whether she’s to take that as confirmation that he’s engaged and about to be married, Depp smiled and said she could “take it any way you like.”
“The fact that I'm wearing a chick's ring on my finger is probably a dead giveaway. Not very subtle,” he continued, smiling and showing off the ring in question. It’s also visible in the photo above and, if you’ve been keeping up with the gossip on the romance, you will probably have no problem identifying it as the bauble Amber was also photographed with on a couple of occasions.
In fact, it was the sight of this particular ring on her engagement finger that started the engagement rumors. Us Weekly claims to have it from a very reliable source that this is actually the same ring Johnny proposed to her with, and that he started wearing it because it was “too big for her.”
Other women would have simply had it altered to fit their finger but one thing is clear about these two actors: they really don’t like to play by the “rules” as far as their romance goes.
A few days ago, Depp was photographed with a different ring on the same finger, this time a man’s piece. It was said then that he too was wearing an engagement / promise ring because he didn’t want Amber to be the only one wearing one.
