John Mayer is officially ending his break from the spotlight with an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, to promote his latest album “Born and Raised.” Video of it is above.

A couple of years ago, the musician stepped on the toes of a lot of people with a series of comments in the press that did him no honor.

It was then that he realized he needed to take some time off and just grow up, he admits on the show.

“It was a really good time. I had to go home for a minute. The plan that originally gets you out high school and your hometown, in front of people. That plan was over. I had done it,” he recalls.

“I just sort of lost my head for a little while. I kind of lost touch and I didn’t want to ask for directions. I did a couple of some dumb interviews and it kind of woke me up,” Mayer further says.

He's now living in Montana and has finally learned to be happy, after preparing himself a lifetime for that. He's also wiser, it would seem.
