MTV has just confirmed that the fourth season of its hit reality series “Jersey Shore” will be shooting in Italy. Since the show is such a success, it was only normal to bring it to Europe, a rep for the network says.

Word of the possibility that “Jersey Shore” might hit Italy first broke in the blogosphere, with Michael Ausiello and TMZ saying it was certainly in the cards with MTV bosses.

Now, MTV Remote Control has confirmation of it straight from the Powers that Be at the network: the troublesome cast of the show is packing their bags to move to Italy while they shoot the upcoming season.

What’s even better, they’re to get on a plane sometimes in May, which means they’ll be just in time to start working on their perma-tans in Italy.

“‘Jersey Shore’ will be shooting its fourth season in ITALY! According to an official hot-off-the-press release from our employer, the entire cast and crew of MTV’s wildly popular hit show will be trading in their shot-filled road trips to Seaside Heights for a sure-to-be mini bottle-laden plane ride to their homeland,” Remote Control writes.

As for when that will happen, the e-zine says in “spring,” with a release date for the show sometime later this year.

Remote Control adds that getting the self-titled guidos and guidettes of “Jersey Shore” to Italy had become somewhat of a must given the international appeal of the show.

Chris Linn, executive vice president of programming and head of production for MTV, believes the same, while also underlining that changing locations will keep them interesting for audiences.

“While the stateside ‘Jersey Shore’ locales have become iconic for our audience, it’s really the constantly evolving dynamic among the cast that keeps them coming back each season, and Europe is a fresh spin on a show that continues to reach new heights for us,” Linn says.

“The cast is headed to the birthplace of the culture they love and live by. We can’t wait to see what erupts as a result,” the VP adds.
