New Disney movie will try to offer a new side of world’s most famous villainess

With the latest “Maleficent” trailer released earlier this month, it felt as if Disney wasn’t willing to reveal any more new footage from its highly anticipated live-action film starring Angelina Jolie as the world’s most famous villainess.

As it turns out, fans in Japan can consider themselves lucky, because they have just gotten a brand-new preview for the film, and it includes loads of new scenes.

It also confirms what Jolie has been saying for the past couple of weeks, namely that the film will show a more human side to Maleficent and, in doing so, will explain some of her actions, perhaps even the most pointlessly cruel one of placing that horrible curse on Aurora aka Sleeping Beauty.

As you can see from the trailer, Maleficent was once a fairy too and she, like other fairies, also had wings but they were taken from her. She’s dedicated her life to serving (and doing) evil ever since.

Besides Jolie, “Maleficent” also stars Elle Fanning as Aurora, June Temple and Sharlto Copley. It is directed by Robert Stromberg, the production designer on “Alice in Wonderland” and “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” who is making his directorial debut. It will be out in theaters at the end of May this year.
