The Japan based magazine called Jump has announced that video game publisher Nintendo is preparing to make a big announcement related to Pokemon, one of its core franchises, at the upcoming Jump Fiesta event, which will take place on December 17 and 18 in Chiba, Tokyo.

The vent is being mainly built around manga and anime properties but Pokemon tends to do a lot of cross promotion so the announcement might very well be linked to a new game for the Nintendo DS or for another platform.

The teaser from the magazine reads: “Pokémon makes first appearance at JF!! Surprising information on the show floor?” and then talks about the “big surprise” that attendees will have when visiting the Pokemon booth, although it's not clear what the nature of the surprise might be.

Recently Nintendo has registered a new Internet domain name that suggests Nintendo might be ready to announce something called Pokemon Grey, a new video game that mixed the Black and White games and creates a hybrid experience.

The company has a long history of developing this kind of remixes to the core games in its series, starting with Pokemon Yellow.

Nintendo has not offered any comment on the Jump magazine teaser or on the rumors about the Grey video game.

The company might also be thinking about launching a new Pokemon game for home consoles, but that will probably mean creating something that support the new Wii U platform, which might mean a long wait for fans of the series.

The Wii U will offer the same processing power as the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 and is expected to launch during the summer of 2012.

There's also the possibility that Nintendo is ready to make an announcement about allowing The Pokemon Company to create games with the familiar characters for devices like smartphones and tablets, which would mean a big expansion of the potential audience.
