The Nintendo 3DS handheld has managed to once again top the video game hardware chart on the Japanese market while the launch of Eiyuu Densetsu: Ao no Kiseki granted small publisher Nihon Falcom a number one in the video game chart.

The 3DS continues to see the benefits of its recent price cut, which also came with a renewed marketing campaign, and managed to sell 58,504 units during the week that ended on October 2, according to data that was compiled by tracking firm Media Create.

This is significantly down over the 70,159 that the device managed during last week but still better than the PlayStation 3 and the PSP combined.

The PS3 is in second place, as it has been for the last few months, and sold 30,362 devices during the seven day period, a little over 9,000 lower than during the previous period, while the PSP now sits on 25,415, seeing the lowest slide of the top three devices.

The Nintendo Wii seems close to going under the 10,000 units sales limit again while the old DS line managed to only sell 4,113 units, more than the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 2.

Eiyuu Densetsu: Ao no Kiseki for the PSP has debuted at the top of the Japanese sales chart with sales of 127,938 copies, lower than previous number ones but still a good performance.

Second place went to Dynasty Warriors 7: Xtreme Legends, another new entry, which sold 82,901 units on the PlayStation 3 for Koei Tecmo while the last place on the podium was captured by Dark Souls, the punishing role playing and action game from From Software, which was last week's number one, with sales of 34,718.

The rest of the top ten includes: Evangelion Shin Gekijoban: 3nd Impact, Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary: Famicom & Super Famicom Dragon Quest I-II-III, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Tag Force 6, Rhythm Heaven, Monster Hunter Freedom 3, Wii Sports Resort with Remote Plus and The ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection.
