The general idea is that Sony has made "no decision yet"

Japanese PlayStation 3s will go satin silver soon, after they went totally white last year. This wouldn't be such a great surprise, having in mind that same colors exist for the PS2 and PSP, but the fact that, as usual, Sony has no plans, no ideas, no feelings for the rest of the world. So, for the moment, Sony only loves Japan.

And the giants do love Japan a lot, since, together with the satin silver PS3, a bunch of hit games for the gaming console will be available for a reduced price. The five low priced titles will cost 3,800 yen each ($35) and they will include Folklore, Resistance: Fall of Man, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Mobile Suit Gundam: Target in Sight (released as Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire in some territories) and Ridge Racer 7.

Following these announcements, Sony was, of course, asked about similar releases in the US or Europe. They gave the answer everybody got really tired of: "There are no plans for a Silver PS3 in North America at this time". However, we might get the chance to see some cheaper games since a SCEA representative said for GamePro: "We have introduced a Greatest Hits range of best selling titles for all of our platforms to date, and it is likely that we will do so in the future for PS3. However, no decisions have yet been made on timing or lineup."

Add to that the fact that "no decisions" was made yet regarding the 120GB rumored PlayStation 3 and you'll understand that Sony really needs some time to do all the thinking. Or, at least, to make a decision. Still, things in Japan are clear: the silver PS3 will have a 40Gb hard drive and it will be sold for 39,980 yen ($374), but no DualShock 3 will be included. But it will be sold separately, anyway, the silver version having an estimated price of 5,500 yen ($52 ).

The rest of the world is waiting.
