The Nintendo 3DS handheld has seen a quick and precipitous drop during the week that ended on August 7, according to the sales figures compiled for the Japanese market by Media Create, while the best selling video game for the same period has been J-League Pro Soccer Club! 7: Euro+.

The best selling piece of hardware has been the PlayStation Portable from Sony, which managed to sell 35,619 units during the week, quite a good performance for the device that is set to get a replacement on the Japanese market before the end of the year.

The PlayStation 3 has climbed up one place to reach second and make the hardware chart a joy to behold for Sony, with sales of 18,338.

The Wii has also enjoyed a revival in terms of sales, taking third place, and closing into the PS3 with sales of 17,004.

The Nintendo 3DS has seen a big slowdown in its own numbers and only managed to move 3,900 units during the week, lower than even the old DSi LL version of the handheld, which saw sales of 4,176.

The dip in sales for the 3DS is linked to the drop in price that Nintendo has announced for the device.

The normal DSi has managed to sell better than the PS2, which beat out the Xbox 360.

When it comes to video games football is the new winner as J-League Pro Soccer Club! 7: Euro+ has managed to sell 101,022 units during its first week on sale.

The DS has a hit in second place, where Kirby Mass Attack has managed to sell 74,915 while third place belongs to Toriko: Gourment Survival for the PSP, with sales of 62,882 copies.

The rest of the top ten is made up of: Rhythm Heaven, All Kamen Rider: Rider Generation, Epic Mickey, Family Fishing, Wii Sports Resort with Remote Plus, Taiko Drum Master Portable DX and Devil Survivor 2.
