When a “Spring Breakers” sequel was announced, “Spring Breakers: Second Coming,” many wondered where James Franco would fit in and whether he’d be involved in it. It turns out that he won’t be: not only that, but he’s actually speaking out against the film.

Apparently, the sequel is being done by the producers of the first film, without the consent of Harmony Korine, who wrote and directed the original. Both Korine and Franco are furious about it and not exactly mincing their words about it.

Franco, for one, has taken to his Instagram to issue a statement about his feelings regarding plans for the sequel and about how everyone should stand up for artistic integrity.

“The original was wholly Harmony’s creation and these producers are capitalizing on that innovative film to make money on a weak sequel. I want everyone to know that whoever is involved in the sequel is jumping on board a poison ship. It will be a terrible film, with a horrible reason d’être: to make money off someone else’s creativity,” he writes.

His full message is embedded below and yes, he does compare “Spring Breakers” to “Taxi Driver.” Meanwhile, Korine posted to his Twitter only a short message in which he expresses surprise at the news of the sequel, branding it “lame.”
