Young actor and musician continues to push the envelope

Jaden Smith might think that the entire world would be better off if adults stopped sending their children to school, but he’s not against attending high school proms, even though he was home-schooled himself.

This is the second prom the young actor and singer attends this year, this time with friend Amandla Stenberg, whom you might recall as Rue from “The Hunger Games” movie. This time, Jaden wore a dress, just like his date.

Jaden pushes the envelope once more

At his first high school prom, Jaden wore the white Batman suit (complete with cape) he also showed up in for Kim Kardashian’s 2014 wedding to Kanye West.

For the second one, he chose something more formal but just as unexpected: a dress. His date, Stenberg, posted photos of their outfits on social media. Jaden is no longer on Twitter, so he couldn’t even if he’d wanted to.

Amandla wore a long metallic halter dress and had her hair styled in dreads, while Jaden wore a black and white dress of medium length, with jeggings and sneakers, and a black blazer. He too had styled his hair in dreads.

Much like Miley Cyrus, Jaden is hailed as a hero for the younger generation for his obvious intention to subvert old notions of gender. He says he doesn’t do it on purpose but that it comes to him naturally, which, in the eyes of his supporters, is an even heavier argument in his favor.

Fashion comes from inside

Jaden has always dressed differently from other young celebrities, in the sense that he never strove to be hip or to show the world that he was following the latest trends. Then again, he and younger sister Willow Smith aren’t exactly “regular” celebrities.

Known perhaps best for being the offspring of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, these 2 young stars are also famous for their pretentiousness and artsy aspirations. In an older interview that went viral and became the talk of the town, Willow claimed that she wrote her own books because what was already available bored her, while her brother said that his goal in life was to be the greatest man ever. At everything.

Jaden’s approach to fashion is surprisingly lax, but that’s because he says he’s not a slave of material stuff. He doesn’t do designer clothes, but just “throws on” whatever he happens to touch.

“It looks cool, sometimes,” he said at one point “I just try to innovate [my fashion] and do things that people have never seen before and say things that people have never heard before.”

And this is how he came to wear a dress to a high school prom.
