Based on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, it sports a 1.4GHz dual-core CPU

Today at the IFA 2011 conference in Berlin, Samsung went official with the first smartphone in the world to sport a screen of over 5 inches, the Samsung Galaxy Note.

Running under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, the new mobile phone will arrive on shelves with a 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED Display that will boast a WXGA 1280 x 800 pixel, 285ppi resolution, as well as touch capabilities.

The Samsung Galaxy Note also comes to the market with a fast dual-core application processor inside, with each core clocked in at 1.4GHz, and with 1GB of RAM.

On the back, the new handset will sport an 8-megapixel photo snapper with support for full HD video recording, as well as with LED Flash.

Moreover, the mobile phone will sport a 2-megapixel camera on the front, so that users will enjoy video calling services while on the go.

The upcoming device also comes with support for HD video playback, for a great experience when viewing videos, photos and other content on its 5.3-inch screen.

Users who will choose to purchase this behemoth will also enjoy 150MB of internal memory with it, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

The specifications list of this smartphone also includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity capabilities, as well as HSPA+ and optional NFC, long with a built-in GPS receiver with support for various location-based services, including the Google Maps.

Other spec of Galaxy Note include a 1,200mAh battery, as well as a Pen UX for user to take handwritten notes on its screen through the included S Pen, which explains the name option.

Since it was based on the Android platform, the mobile phone will also offer support for all of the associated mobile services, as well as for applications and games that can be downloaded from the Android Market.
