Less than a day after Intel’s Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E processor reached retail, iBuyPower has announced that this new quad-core part will be available in its high-performance desktop computers.

This includes the company's Paladin XLC and Erebus custom built systems equipped with liquid cooling, but the chips can also be added to a host of other PCs from the company's lineup.

When configuring both the Paladin XLC and Erebus, iBuyPower customers are able to pair Intel's high-performance processors with a wide assortment of graphics cards from both AMD and Nvidia, including CrossFireX and SLI solutions.

The systems can also be equipped with up to 32GB of DDR3 RAM, as well as six storage drives (either SSD or HDD).

“We are excited to offer these speedy new CPUs that are faster than the previous generation but more efficient,” said Darren Su, vice president of iBuyPower.

“Best of all the Intel Core i7 3820 is priced similarly to the slower previous generation, allowing us to pass that savings on to our customers,” concluded the company’s rep.

Intel’s Core i7-3820 CPU is based on a new Sandy Bridge-E die that packs “only” 1.27 billion transistors, compared to the 2.27 billion transistors found in Intel’s six-core parts.

The chip features four computing cores with Hyper-Threading support working at 3.6GHz (3.9GHz max Turbo), 10MB of Level 3 cache memory, a quad-channel memory controller, and a built-in 40-lane PCI Express 3.0 controller.

iBuyPower will start shipping the systems configured with Intel’s new processor on February 28. Pricing for these desktops starts at $2,279 (about 1,733 EUR).

As always, those with more specific gaming needs can head over to iBuyPower’s website to configure their system to include faster GPU, CPU, more memory or an SSD. Customers also have the option of getting a factory overclock for an extra fee.
