Young smartphone developer Innocomm Technology said recently that it planned on launching the first mobile phone powered by Google's Android operating system during the ongoing year. The company also stated that the new device was set to arrive as a high-quality phone, while also sporting a low price tag, something that should make other mobile phone makers in the world take notice.

The upcoming Android handset from the company will be called Innocomm Shark, and is expected to feature the same capabilities as smartphones that cost US$500 or $600 on the market, but to sport a much lower price tag when launched in May or June. “What we do is sell a high-end smartphone at a low-end price,” Chuck Huang, a sales manager at the company, stated recently, reports PC World.

The specifications list of the new handset is said to include a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, an 8-megapixel photo snapper with flash, built-in GPS receiver, support for 3G connectivity, as well as Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) and Bluetooth 2.0 capabilities. According to the company, the new handset measures 115 x 58 x 12.5 mm, and will also include a 3.5mm audio jack, as well as a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

Other features of the device include an analog TV receiver, and it seems that the company also plans the inclusion of a digital TV receiver in a refresh model set to land on the market at a later date. The screen of the handset boasts a resolution of 400 x 800 pixels, deliver great video playback quality, and has been specifically designed for viewing TV programs while on the go.

Moreover, it seems that this is not the first Android-based mobile phone the company has worked on, as it also has plans to launch a smartphone that includes a 2.8-inch screen and a 3.0-megapixel digital camera this year, called Raja, which is a modified version of the Skate model it showed last year but never launched. Other devices the company works on include the Gemini, Shadow, and Scorpion, but they are only concept devices for the time being.
