Crysis 2 is not the only first person shooter to be developed using the CryEngine 3.0 tools. IllFonic, an independent developer, has announced that it is producing Nexuiz for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This is one of the few studios to adopt Crytek's latest development kit since it's release in October 2009.

This is a very enhanced port of Nexuiz, a freeware online first person shooter built using the Quake I engine for Windows, Mac and Linux-based platforms by a team called Alientrap. The game is basically a very polished clone of Quake III: Arena with quite a lot of maps, mutators like in Unreal Tournament and different weapons. The version of the Quake I development tools the developers are using is called Darkplaces and it feature quite a lot of modifications to the old code, as the title looks really good even today.

The console version that is coming from IllFonic will have the same fast-paced style of gameplay. The story will revolve around a conflict between two factions called Kavussari and Forsellians who hold gladiatorial arena tournaments to maintain the uneasy peace between their people. New game modes, character models and maps will constantly arrive as downloadable content for both consoles. IllFonic was formed by some of the developers that are currently supporting the PC version of Nexuiz, alongside other Quake I community programmers.

IllFonic is another one of the few independent game studios that have hurried to adopt Crytek latest technological outing. Two other German developers are using the engine to create their titles. Xavian is making an action role playing game called Lichdom, while Troxit Services is working on a massively multiplayer online role playing title called Forged by Chaos. There have also been rumors saying that GSG Game World are building their much anticipated S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 using CryEngine 3.0.
