What we know

Infamous 2 is the follow-up to 2009's open-world super hero game, coming from development studio Sucker Punch.

The game centers around the same main character, Cole McGrath, who, after being at the center of a mysterious conspiracy, can control electricity and develops unique powers centered around it.

After the first game saw him cope with his new-found powers in Empire City, his native town, Infamous 2 will see Cole reach New Marais, a southern location, based on New Orleans.

There, Cole will once again find himself in the middle of lots of problems and issues, and his actions will eventually decide the fate of New Marais.

Once more, choice is an important factor, with Cole being led on by two unique female presences, a government agent called Kuo, who wants Cole to do the right thing for humanity, and a native of New Marais, Nix, who wants the government to pay for what it did to the local community by any means necessary.

Cole is set to wield his classic electric powers, but also a brand new melee weapon that will help him when enemies get up close and personal.

New Marais will also have lots of different areas, including a swamp one, in order to keep things interesting, as lots of people complained about the gray and gritty Empire City.

Why it matters

The original Infamous impressed a lot of people, even if it came out almost at the same time as Activision's Prototype, another open-world superhero game.

Among the two, Infamous was favored due to its more detailed world and because of the moral choices given to players, who could make sure Cole acted as they would have in key moments.

Infamous 2 is set to amp that up with a karma system and add more twists and turns to keep players interested in its story.

As of right now, Infamous 2 doesn't have a concrete release date, but expect it later this year, exclusively on the PlayStation 3.
