Debbie Rowe, the former nurse to whom Michael Jackson had been married for three years and who gave birth to Prince Michael and Paris, never wanted to be a mother and being one was not why she agreed to become pregnant. The woman who may now fight grandmother Katherine Jackson for custody admitted to Us Magazine back in 2003 that she was never a mother in the true sense of the word.

This could very well turn out to be a case of when past actions come back to haunt you, as the magazine in question is now unearthing the many year-old interview to show that, should she choose to fight for custody as speculated, attorneys have solid grounds to prove she’s an unfit mother. This happens because, in 2003, when the mag caught up with her, she frankly admitted that she only became pregnant to offer Michael what he wanted, and that she never really saw herself as a mother, but rather as a woman who gave birth.

“Parenting is an art; you earn the title. Because you give birth and impregnate someone does not automatically give you the title of mother or father – you earn the title. My kids don’t call me mom because I don’t want them to. They are Michael’s children. It’s not that they’re not my children, but I had them because I wanted him to be a father.” Rowe was saying at the time. The entire interview is featured again in the magazine, out on newsstands now.

At the time, Rowe also defended herself against allegations that she had done the child-bearing thing just for money, saying she had been talked into it by her great love for the now-late pop star and his ardent desire to become a father. She saw nothing wrong in the fact that she had given up her parental rights, insisting that Michael was a wonderful father, which made her presence around completely redundant.

“I didn’t do it to be a mother. Like I said, you earn the title. I didn’t change diapers. I didn’t get up in the middle of the night – even when I was there. Michael did it all. I am telling you that he is the most brilliant father. Almost before the baby needed something, he knew what it was. And that’s not for me. If it hadn’t been for how much I love him and because of our relationship, I would never have had children.” Debbie Rowe was also saying at the time.

Last time Rowe’s name made it into the headlines, she was seen breaking down in tears as Paris Jackson was attempting to speak about her father during the public memorial held at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
