According to Engadget Chinese, Chinese telecommunications manufacturer Huawei is set to release an Android 2.2 entry-level smartphone in August. Even if the actual Froyo build hasn't been reported as 100% compatible with more than one phone (Google Nexus), while the rest of Android smartphones are waiting in line to receive the upgrade, Huawei decided to take the matter in its hands and promises to release a fully Android 2.2 compatible device.

The leaked information points out that the smartphone features a 2.8-inch QVGA capacitive touch screen, a 3.2-megapixel camera, as well as HSDPA connectivity. While there is no information regarding its price, we know that it will be a low-budget phone and that Huawei hopes to launch it in August.

From the pictures leaked, the phone seems to have a standard bar form factor, with four touch sensitive keys at the base of the touch screen, as well as a big rounded Navi-wheel. The camera on the back doesn't seem to have any LED flash capabilities, but perhaps the final version will receive some improvements compared with the prototype in the images.

In case you had any doubts about the operating system run by the smartphone, Google's logo placed on the back of the phone tags it as an Android compatible handset. If the info is correct, the pictures must have been taken on June 17, which makes us believe the Chinese manufacturer is pretty advanced on the projected gadget.

Even though it is set to be initially launched in China, let's hope Huawei's Android 2.2 entry-level smartphone will see the light of day in EU countries as well. Of course, there's no word on pricing or carrier availability, but rumors set its launch for August 2010.
