Microsoft rolled out a new Windows 10 for phones preview, so now that everyone’s talking about it, you might obviously want to give it a try on your very own Lumia.

Obviously, there are several questions that come to mind before doing this, and the two most common are the following: can it brick my phone and how do I do it?

Basically, Windows 10 for phones preview can brick your phone, but this happens very, very rarely, so it’s pretty much impossible if you stick to the official build released by Microsoft and the app that can do that.

And as an answer to the second question, it’s all possible through the Windows Insider app that can be found in the store and that provides you with instant access to the very latest Windows 10 for phones preview. But before downloading the app, make sure that your device is fully supported by the preview.

Here’s the full list of supported models, so in case your model isn’t here, you have no other option than to wait:

Lumia 1020 Lumia 1320 Lumia 1520 Lumia 520 Lumia 525 Lumia 526 Lumia 530 Lumia 530 Dual Sim Lumia 535 Lumia 620 Lumia 625 Lumia 630 Lumia 630 Dual Sim Lumia 635 Lumia 636 Lumia 638 Lumia 720 Lumia 730 Lumia 730 Dual SIM Lumia 735 Lumia 810 Lumia 820 Lumia 822 Lumia 830 Lumia 920 Lumia 925 Lumia 928 Microsoft Lumia 430 Microsoft Lumia 435 Microsoft Lumia 435 Dual SIM Microsoft Lumia 435 Dual SIM DTV Microsoft Lumia 532 Microsoft Lumia 532 Dual SIM Microsoft Lumia 640 Dual SIM Microsoft Lumia 535 Dual SIM

Good to go in just a few seconds

If your device is on the list and the app is on your phone, here’s what you need to do.

First and foremost, make sure you create a backup because apps and files could be lost during installation. Second, you need to choose between two different rings, namely slow and fast, with the latter bringing you new builds at a faster pace but they are also prone to more bugs.

Choose “fast” and then hit the check for updates option, and the new preview should start downloading and installing. It all takes up to 60 minutes, so connect the device to a power source to make sure that the process is completed successfully.

TL;DR: check if your phone is supported, download the Windows Insider app for Windows Phone, choose “fast,” check for new preview builds, and wait.
