Lisa Edelstein will not be reprising her role as Dr. Cuddy on the eighth (and presumably last) season of the successful medical drama “House M.D.” Thanks to last night’s cliffhanging season finale, fans know why now.
“No one will see it coming,” executive producer Greg Yaitanes said some time ago, when asked what kind of surprises the season 7 finale, aptly named “Moving On,” would have in store for fans.
In many ways, no one did, even though Fox did let a few hints here and there drop, particularly in one of the promos for the episode – which you can also see below, embedded at the end of the article.
*Fans who have not seen the season finale yet are encouraged not to read any further than this – plenty of major spoilers ahead.*
The season finale brought unexpected pregnancies (as in, in plural), jealousy fits, and one Dr. House at the wheel of a car heading straight for the house of one Dr. Cuddy, who happens to be chatting with another man.
As E! Online points out, while fans must have expected for House to do something bad to Cuddy to make her ask a policeman to throw him in jail if he ever comes near her again, few probably expected something this big to happen.
“Obviously, Lisa Edelstein’s fate wasn’t decided when this episode was written, so we weren’t expecting them to straight-up kill her off. Instead, the episode was full of awkward, heartbreaking and somewhat-forced interactions between House and Cuddy. Except for that last thing,” E! writes.
“You know, when House plowed his car into Cuddy’s house because he saw her hanging out with another guy. Yeah, that thing. Now, the crazy-jealous actions from House could set up Dr. Lisa’s Cuddy in a couple ways,” the e-zine writes.
Such an action on House’s part opens the door to a wide range of possibilities for the next season, which could have worked just as well for producers had Lisa agreed to stay on board for another season.
For instance, House could move to another hospital, or Cuddy could leave, or, even worse, she may somehow die offscreen, word online has it.
All in all, season 7 ended with a bang: some fans loved it, but some simply felt that it was as if producers were trying too hard to top previous finales, those that actually made sense with the beloved character.
They should have just finished it last night....I'm done...between his nonsense the past few weeks and the patient case and the ending...I'm done. The characters have all become annoying and the plots way completely ridiculous. I used to love this show, but I'm done.

I agree 100% It's getting ridiculous... If I wanted to watch a soap I would stay home all day and watch one of those 'all my children' soaps or whatever. I'm disappointed in the writers. I miss when the show was more so about the 'case' and making the 'case' interesting' along with a little bit of info into the doctor characters lives. Not all this ridiculous drama BS that has somehow been introduced into the show the last couple of season. Non the less I will always love House and I will most likely still watch next seasons.

I agree with this. This show is just a soap now and not about the medicine or the patient anymore. There was hardly any attention to the patient in this finale. The best seasons were the first 3 for me when they had a good balance between the personal lives and the cases and the personal drama is just nauseating now.
hi guys.. i have stayed away from house lately (it's hard for me to still find the same thrill in a tv show after so many seasons!), but i got to see the season finale and i found it BRILLIANT. The show might just have finished there and it would have been an AMAZING finale. It's got so many layers and says so much about the character that it's just perfect for me.

House could be charged with 4 counts of attempted murder but it'll get plea bargained down to felony(?) trespass. This was not far off from being a series finale.
I love the show but the finale sucked. I kept thinking toward the end, "This can't be how it really ends, every finale was better then this." The it went to dark and I felt this kinda empty feeling. It was very sad, cause I was entertained most of the season and it just ended on a boring, crappy note. Here's hoping next season won't suck. I'll be so dissapointed if the last season is horrible and I have to jump that shark, cause this series desearves a big ending. Not something that will just make us all forget what made House an amazing show to begin with.
Run Lisa, Run! The show should have ended on a high at the end of Season 2. As it is it's become a sad and pathetic joke, and Season 7 really capped it off. Won't be watching any more. See ya, Plainsborough.

Lots of folks say this is too saopy. I disagree, I felt it ended at least 2 or maybe 3 years ago. Tumultuous bus crashes, wholesale cast changes, unlikely personal disorders. murders, drug addiction, employee abuse on a a scale that I hope would never be tolerated. All apparently forgiven in a week or maybe two! No ward I ever worked in would allow this man on their floor after the first couple of times
The plot line took the character too far and destroyed credibility.
