Feud escalates to bitter exchange of words

A little over a week ago, word got out in the media that singer and actress Hilary Duff was attached to a new “Bonnie and Clyde” film. Ever since then, the question of whether Duff would be able to play such a vicious woman as Bonnie has been brought up, with original “Bonnie” star Faye Dunaway being among the first to say so. Now, Duff is firing back at Dunaway, calling her, in more or less words, old news and ugly.

When Faye was asked to state how she felt about Hilary being cast as Bonnie, she reportedly replied by saying “Couldn’t they at least cast a real actress?” As it usually happens in such cases, Duff was the last to learn about the snappy remark, but, now that she has, she is not happy about it. Moreover, she is certainly not the one to let such a comment just go by without her fighting back – which is precisely what she did in a recent interview with E!

“I think that my fans that are going to go see the movie don’t even know who she is, so you know…. I think it was a little unnecessary, but I might be mad if I looked like that now too.” Hilary Duff said, taking a jab at Faye’s age. Several media outlets have already pointed out that, while the young Hilary was right to answer back, picking on Dunaway’s age was rather uncalled for.

“The Story of Bonnie and Clyde,” despite the ongoing feud of the two stars, is in no way connected to the classic 1967 “Bonnie and Clyde,” save for the story of the two killer, bank-robbing lovers. Therefore, it is not a remake, as it will try to approach the topic of the twosome from a different perspective. It will be produced by Cypress Moon Studios, while Tonya S. Holly will act as director, after writing the script as well, which is based on old newspapers detailing the deeds of the killer couple.

As a side note, Dunaway is not the only one to express doubt as to Duff’s ability to take on the Bonnie character. Since the project was announced, countless fans have taken to movie blogs to say that Hilary's “innate sweetness” will certainly ruin the film. However, so far, Dunaway is the only one to have been called old and ugly by the 21-year-old actress and singer.
