The music game genre is, without a doubt, one of the most popular segments in the game industry – with its two main titles, Guitar Hero and Rock Band, having surpassed sports games in terms of sales – and it seems that it is set to become even bigger this year.

This is largely due to the massive amount of new content that is being released for the games that are made for this genre. The number of DLC (Downloadable Content) tracks that can be acquired after buying the game is now a decisive factor for a lot of customers. This has led to a battle between Activision and Harmonix, the companies behind Guitar Hero and Rock Band, respectively, which are struggling to offer the best songs available.

As it is usually done, Harmonix has just announced the songs that it will release this January onto the Xbox 360 Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Network for its own game. Among the performers and bands that will entertain players this week are Roy Orbison, Lenny Kravitz and the Steve Miller Band. Roy Orbison will be a real treat for fans of retro songs, as tracks like Pretty Woman or You Got It will certainly be very popular. On the other hand, fans of newer hits will certainly enjoy Lenny Kravitz's songs, Are You Gonna Go My Way included.

Here's the full tracklist, as found on Kotaku:

“Claudette by Roy Orbison In Dreams by Roy Orbison Mean Woman Blues by Roy Orbison Oh, Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison Ooby Dooby by Roy Orbison You Got It by Roy Orbison Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz Freedom Train by Lenny Kravitz Let Love Rule by Lenny Kravitz Mr. Cab Driver by Lenny Kravitz The Joker by Steve Miller Band Space Cowboy by Steve Miller Band”

Considering the fact that Rock Band definitely earned some pretty big sales this holiday season, it seems that Harmonix is focused on these new players and wants to offer them some very interesting songs.
