A movie based on the Halo series of video games is still an interesting proposition for 343 Industries and their parent company Microsoft and details about a project could be appearing in the near future, probably after the launch of Halo: Reach in the middle of September.

Frankie O'Connor, who is the leader of 343 Industries, has told Variety that “We’re still interested in making an excellent ‘Halo’ movie.”

He added, “We’ve created an awful lot of documentation and materials to support a feature film. We have a good idea of what kind of story we want to tell, but won’t move on it until there’s a great reason to do it. We’re in no particular hurry.”

Apparently the team at 343 Industries sees television as a possible alternative to a movie also saying that any transition from the video game medium will not mean that the story will be retold for a new audience but that it will be re imagined to attract a wider public.

Lately a significant number of video game franchises, from Left 4 Dead to BioShock, were talked about in relation to possible movie projects.

At the moment all Halo fans are looking forward to the September 14 launch of Reach, the third person shooter that is exclusive to the Xbox 360.

The game will serve as a sort of prequel, with the player inhabiting the combat boots of Noble-6, the newest member of a squad of Spartans that battle the Covenant.

This is the last video game that original creators Bungie are creating in the series, as they have already signed an agreement to collaborate with Activision Blizzard for the next ten years, creating a new video game universe.

The huge popularity of Halo and Master Chief as a character means that publisher Microsoft cannot simply abandon them so they formed 343 Industries to handle future developments.
