343 Industries, the developer in charge of Microsoft's Halo franchise, has just detailed how terminals will work in the upcoming Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary edition, and how they will provide key insight into the story of next year's Halo 4.

Halo fans have a major reason to pick up the upcoming Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition, as the game was confirmed to see the return of the Terminals from Halo 3, which are set to offer key insight into the story of the series and some hints at the plot of the next game in the franchise, Halo 4.

343 Industries executive producer Dan Ayoub talked with CVG about these terminals and how they'll convey new information to players who will be able to find them through the story campaign in the remastered version of the original Halo game.

"So you guys may remember Terminals from Halo 3," he said. "They were very much like Easter Eggs in the game. You went through, found them and got some story info. It was usually just text on the screen. But it's not really that interesting to read text on a screen, so we're doing some very cool things with it."

Instead of the text, Ayoub revealed that Tim Dadabo, the voice actor for Guilty Spark, would narrate short videos and highlight information about the series and the set up for the story of Halo 4.

"We're giving Terminals a much more visual treatment, where we're telling each story in a graphical way. It's a lot cooler than reading text on a screen and also allows us to convey a lot more emotion in our storytelling. We've got Terminals hidden throughout the game and if you find them all you'll learn story about the Halo universe, the ring and also story elements of things you're going to see in Halo 4."

Ayoub does say that more details will be revealed soon, probably at the Halo Fest this August, when the developer will showcase lots of information about Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary edition and Halo 4 to loyal fans of the series.
