After a few very troubled months, actress Halle Berry and ex boyfriend model Gabriel Aubry can finally put the bitter custody battle over daughter Nahla in the past. “Sometimes you reach an impasse” is how Halle describes the crisis in an interview with Extra.

The star is again doing the media rounds to draw attention to her Jenesse center, which helps battered and abuse women and children get a fresh start, as the video below will confirm.

Halle explains how she came up with the idea for the center and how it was connected to knowing that people don’t really like the term “shelter.”

She also says that current beau Oliver Martinez is also involved in the activities of the center, while also thinking of new ways he too can lend a hand to help.

“He is really proud and you know, he’s inspired. He’s got his own ideas of how he can get involved in the center and help the boys… be sort of a male figure,” Halle says of Martinez.

Speaking of beaus, the question of her bitter legal fight with her ex, Aubry, also comes up during the interview: it’s almost over now, she says.

“It’s been a year full of challenges, but every year seems challenging in one way or another. It is, and you know what, that’s a relief. When there’s a child involved, it’s a relief when you can resolve things in a good way,” Halle says.

“Our issues were never about fighting for her, you know? We know that a child needs both parents but I think what I want to say about it is that sometimes as a couple you reach an impasse,” the actress explains of the nasty custody battle.

“We need a court and a judge to help us work out some of the delicate issues, and I’m so happy we’ve arrived at that place… because for her sake, this is the best way. So we’re good… It’s a huge relief, because we both love her more than life,” Berry adds.
