iPhone has strong points and a lot of weaknesses

The iPhone might look great, it may also be capable of managing a great deal of evolved performances, but has its own weak spots. This has happened in the first three days since the release of this device, which makes it even more possible that their number increases in time.

The most important vulnerability rests in the Safari browser. Errata Security has showed that an attacker can take control of the browser and run any code on the device by effecting a buffer overflow in the application. One thing which happens most of the times when a hacker gains access to a phone is to start dialing 900 numbers, in order to substantially increase the owner's bill.

Another bug which Errata has reported is that whenever the iPhone is exposed to a fuzzer, the Bluetooth immediately locks it. Hackers are currently working on finding ways to unlock the phone as to make it available for use in any networks, not only at the AT&T one. They have not succeeded in doing so yet, but claim to be making serious progresses in this matter. They also make efforts to succeed in getting the iPhone to run Linux.

One hacker has managed to find a flaw in the phone's platform right from the first weekend. A forum on Hackintosh has published the password for the application root access.

Hackers have already had their hopes up high with future plans on breaking digital rights management functionality in the iPhone. The reason for the slow hacking evolution is basically the fact that not a lot of hackers actually own such a device. As soon as they will, the number of application flaws is expected to reach high numbers.

Apple is currently working on ways to solve as many as possible from the flaws that their only phone comes with.
