On Tuesday, leading Taiwan-based mobile phone maker HTC corporation announced that its Android-based HTC Wildfire smartphone was set to become available for purchase in Australia on Telstra’s Next G network in August. The new device is meant to offer users a new solution that would keep them connected with friends and family at all times, the handset vendor announced.

The HTC Wildfire comes to the market with a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, with a 5-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus and LED flash, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space to be added into the equation. The new mobile phone also packs a wide range of special features, such as HTC’s Friend Stream application, which was designed to gather updates from social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr, and to display them in a single stream. Other features of the new device include next-generation Caller ID solution, along with the ability to send application recommendations straight from the device, or to find things faster via 'Leap' view.

HTC Wildfire closely follows the success of the acclaimed HTC Desire launched with Telstra in April this year,” said Anthony Petts, Sales and Marketing Director ANZ, HTC Corporation. “This new smartphone makes the signature HTC Sense experience accessible to a younger audience, through the integration of the most popular social networks to help bring your friends closer to you. HTC Wildfire also offers an additional range of features – from next-generation Caller ID that allows you to view in depth contact details from their Facebook status and birthday when the call comes through, to the ability to recommend applications to friends in one simple tap.”

HTC Wildfire resembles a lot with the high-end HTC Desire, but is aimed at a lower level of the market. According to the leading mobile phone maker, the HTC Wildfire would be launched in Australia in August exclusively on the airwaves of Telstra. Unfortunately, no details on the pricing of the handset were unveiled for the time being, but all the necessary info should become available as the release date approaches.

“Combining striking looks, some of HTC Desire’s best features and an ultra-affordable price tag, the new HTC Wildfire is set to excite,” said Ross Fielding, Executive Director, Mobility Products, Telstra. “Available in either ‘Pure White’ or ‘Phantom Black’ and featuring sleek brushed aluminium highlights, this little powerhouse provides one-touch access to Google services like YouTube and Gmail as well as Telstra apps like Mobile FOXTEL from Telstra. Wildfire’s easy-to-use menus can be filled with fun apps and games from the Android Market. HTC Wildfire owners will also enjoy speedy web browsing and social networking in more places thanks to Telstra’s Next G network -- Australia’s largest and fastest national mobile network.”
