Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation reportedly started to deploy the very first manufacturer software update for some of the devices that it launched on shelves last year with Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system on board.

The new firmware bump comes at a time when Microsoft themselves are pushing out a software update for Windows Phone 7 devices, the much-discussed NoDo update.

However, the new software comes from HTC themselves, and the owners of Windows Phone 7 handsets from the company would receive the “HTC update for Windows Phone” message as soon as the software is available for their devices.

From a certain perspective, this does not come too much as a surprise, since another phone maker also unveiled plans to deliver its own Windows Phone 7 updates, namely Dell.

It seems that, in addition to the operating system enhancements that are being delivered from Microsoft, Windows Phone 7 users would also benefit from firmware improvements from manufacturers, just as they did on the older Windows Mobile platform.

In addition to informing on the availability of this software update, the guys over at the unwired also came up with a screenshot that testifies its availability.

Apparently, the software update was sent out to all users who updated their devices using the ChevronWP7.Updater (which brought to them the latest OS bits, regardless whether beta or final).

Microsoft took stance against the ChevronWP7.Updater and warned that users should not upgrade their devices through it, as there might be unwanted consequences if they do so.

It's unclear what exactly the new HTC software would do, but, based on the fact that Microsoft said that users updating through ChevronWP7.Updater would not be able to receive future software for their devices, chances are that the new firmware bump was meant to fix that.

Until more info on this emerges, we should note that Dell promised new features, fixes and enhancements with the aforementioned update it plans on rolling out to its Dell Venue Pro users.
